A Comprehensive Guide to Maintenance and Cleaning for Outdoor Home Fire Pits, Tables & Bowls by Fuel Type

Outdoor home fire products do require some maintenance and cleaning to ensure their safety and longevity. The amount of work required will depend on the type of fuel being used and how frequent the product is being used. It will also depend on how you treat the product. Be nice!

What To Expect In Terms of Taking Care of Your Outdoor Home Fire Pit and Fire Table

  • Wood: This will require the most maintenance and cleaning. Wood produces ash and debris that will need to be disposed of regularly. These need to be cleaned after each use. Don't let it build-up because that will be more work in the end.
  • Gas: This requires less work than wood-fueled. The clean up is not as difficult - you are just removing any dirt or debris. It is best practice to do periodic maintenance though like cleaning the burners and checking the fuel lines.
  • Electric: This requires the least amount of work. Similar to gas, you are just removing any dirt of debris. On top of that, you don't need to clean the burners or check for fuel lines since it is electric. Just make sure to check that the heating element is in good condition from time to time.

These are general expectations. You should always refer to the manufacturer's instructions and relevant safety guidelines as it is specific to their products.

What Are Some Tips & Tricks to Reduce Maintenance and Cleaning for Outdoor Home Fire Products

What Are Some Best Practices To Keep Them in Great Condition For Years to Come

  • Keep them covered when they are not in use to protect them from the weather - this will also help reduce the need for cleaning
  • Store fuel sources in a safe and secure location

How Do You Clean Outdoor Home Fire Pits and Fire Tables?

  • Wet rag or sponge will do just fine to wipe down the surface of the fire pit or fire table. Make sure it is cooled before cleaning it.
  • Duster can be used to sweep away ash and debris from the surface as well. Avoid dusters that shed because you are leaving a different type of debris behind.
  • Ash scoop for wood-fueled fire products. They are typically made out of metal and have a long handle. These pick up ash and debris from the bottom of the fire pit or fire table.
  • Vacuum cleaner can also be used to remove any ash or debris. Don't use your regular vacuum cleaner!
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning products - these can damage the surface or leave behind residues that could be harmful. I typically use natural cleaning products (vinegar or baking soda).
